Universal Declaration for Human Rights Commends Kano and Ogun State Governments for Compassionate Support to Families Affected by Tragic Accident

The Universal Declaration for Human Rights (UDHR) extends its sincere commendation to the Governments of Kano and Ogun States for their prompt, humane, and commendable response following the tragic accident involving delegates returning from the 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF) held in Ogun State.

We deeply appreciate the Kano State Government’s fair and compassionate distribution of humanitarian aid, which included ₦1,000,000 and three bags of rice for each bereaved family. This gesture underscores the government’s commitment to easing the burden of those who have suffered unimaginable loss. Similarly, we applaud the Ogun State Government for its generous donation of ₦31,000,000 to the families of the deceased—an act that reflects a profound dedication to citizen welfare and empathy in leadership.

We are further heartened by the public assurances from both state governments to continue providing assistance to the affected families. This ongoing support is both timely and necessary, and we wholeheartedly welcome it. We also recognize and commend the contributions of concerned political leaders and compassionate citizens whose support has been vital during this challenging period.

In light of these efforts, UDHR calls on the Kano State Government to expedite the disbursement of death benefits to the families of the deceased civil servants. We acknowledge the administration’s commendable record in settling pensions and gratuities, and we urge that this same dedication be extended to the affected families to help them navigate the current economic challenges after losing their primary breadwinners.

We remain optimistic that the Kano State Government will continue to prioritize the well-being of these vulnerable families. We also emphasize the importance of sustained collaboration between government authorities and community stakeholders to ensure meaningful, long-term support as the families heal and rebuild.

Signed,
